The Transformable Textile Interior
Master degree project
designing transformable textiles for interior applications through jacquard weaving
Nowadays, a wide variety of activities take place in homes. This project aims at creating indoor textiles that adapt to different functions to offer space and material saving solutions and bring more playfulness to the interior. Five transformable textile objects were designed for different functions in a room: a teapot cover/tablecloth, a coaster/napkin, a room divider/mattress, a chair cover/blanket and a cushion/sleeping bag. Produced using jacquard weaving techniques, these textiles’ strong visual and tactile features also stimulate the user’s senses when manipulating the objects.

Chair cover – blanket
The chair cover allows a regular chair to become a comfortable seat when hosting a party, a gathering with friends or even when working. It can also be unrolled and transformed into a cosy blanket.

cushion – sleeping bag
Following the transformation of a convertible couch, this decorative cushion can be turned into a comfortable sleeping bag when inviting a guest to sleep over.

napkin – coaster
The coaster protects surfaces from the heat of warm drinks, and is unfolded to become a napkin during meals.

Teapot cover – tablecloth
The teapot cover is a transportable object that keeps drinks warm. It can be transformed into a tablecloth for meals, and its length can be adapted to different sizes of tables.

Room divider – mattress
When working from home, the room divider provides intimacy and isolation to focus. To exercise, meditate or relax, the panels are rolled into a mattress.
